ICDS has been formed by scientists from all over the world for the purposes of promulgating a better understanding of the mechanisms of cell death and apoptosis (important areas for biomedical research), establishing communication among the various branches of research, and communicating and coordinating the application of research findings in biology and medicine. Other board members are: Patrizia Agostinis (Belgium), Raymond Birge (USA), Christoph Borner (Germany), Marianne Cronje (South Africa), Katrina D’Herde (Belgium), Roya Kosravi (USA), Simone Fulda (Germany), Nader Maghsoudi (Iran), Seamus Martin (Ireland), Soraya Smaili (Brazil), Junying Yuan (USA) and Zahra Zakeri (USA).
